Rolando Cominelli was born in Milan in 1972, he studied in Milan and Berlin at the Hochschule der Künste, he graduated in Architecture and Interior Design at the Politecnico di Milano. He worked at several design studios in Germany, Spain and Italy. In 2001 he founded STUDIO02, a multi disciplinary design firm in Milano.
Passionate about design and visual communication he is devoted to the development of product design, interior and retail design projects. His approach to design is like a lever of evolution and growth adapted to the environment of each company and not only a simple creative and formal study. Designing the “right product” implies different steps: innovation, creativity, the means of production, the strategy of the company and a correct marketing and communication approach.
He collaborates with companies from different sectors, developing communication and design projects: small appliances, furnishings, upholstered furnishings, creative collections of sofas e beds, interiors, retail and hospitality spaces. For some companies he plays the role of “art director”, and thanks to the knowledge and experience in several international markets, he works with some companies for internationalization projects.
Nicolò Favaretto Rubelli was born in Venice in 1964.
Following a degree in civil engineering at the University of Padua, he began his career in the family company in 1992, supervising the renovation of the Rubelli’s mill in Cucciago, near Como.
After several prolonged stays in the U.S. where Rubelli owned a weaving mill, and later becoming sales manager for America, Nicolò developed a deep passion for the New World, so fascinatingly different from his beloved Venetian homeland.
From the U.S. market, his responsibilities gradually grow to the entire world: appointed VP for sales and marketing, he began to travel extensively around the globe as proud ambassador of the prestigious and historical Venetian textile tradition. Currently report directly to him the directors for the Italian market, for export, for contract (hotels, cruise liners, historical projects, furniture), and for marketing.
Nicolò is also directly overseeing the development of new products and collections, working with the designers for the different brands of the Rubelli Group.
Following the acquisition of the American company Donghia in 2005, the role of Nicolò has expanded further. Together with his father and his brother Andrea, he is member of the board of Donghia, his interests focused especially on the commercial development and on the export of the brand.
His appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Rubelli in 2008 paved the way for the natural shift of power from the fourth to the fifth generation of the family.
Nicolò had a major role in starting a partnership with Mr. Armani to create a new line, launched in 2009 and named: “Armani Casa Exclusive Textiles by Rubelli”.
In the last years the activity of the Group has been enlarged from the textile to the furnishing field with the launch of “Rubelli Casa” in 2015 and the activity of the Rubelli Studio which offers, besides products, the interior design service as well.
David was born in Italy, near Milan, in a family with long craft tradition; 3 generations of carpenters. In his Italian laboratory, he develops and realizes his own prototypes.
Thanks to his educational and professional process (Milan Polytechnic Master degree, project manager for Luceplan, consultant for important design firms in Milan), David developed an analytic and modern design method and approach, and acquired a deep knowledge of the main industrial production technologies.

Born in 1970 under the massive Alps of Carrara, Ugo Cacciatori belongs to a dynasty of marble quarry owners and renowned sculptors. His early passion for materials and an innate design instinct lead him to attend the University of Architecture in Florence and to extend his experience into relevant international firms in London. In the late 90s, turning his skills toward the fashion industry, his first ready-to-wear collection is presented in Milan. Appointed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, he collaborates for several years with Valentino’s design team as well as several others such as Giambattista Valli, Romeo Gigli, Marni, and Fendi. Back to Italy, he settles in Lerici, a hidden fisherman village on the border between Tuscany and Liguria once the inspiring nest of Byron and Shelley, starting a very personal ornamental approach, which still remains. The experience achieved over twenty years, his solid reputation and a wide relationships’ network have gained him the possibility of projecting his style onto the several subject. The recent architectural contracts for the Century 21 department store in New York and the residence of actress Zoe Saldana in Los Angeles are its evidence. With the consolidation of his own name, the collaborations have been limited to few executive projects as the creative direction at Santacroce, a Prada Group’s brand, or the accessories co-branding with Diesel. From 2014, after sharing over a decade between Milan and New York, Ugo Cacciatori has elected California his creative base. Working from his live-work atelier, the remarkable Lloyd Wright’s Samuel-Novarro House, he’s setting the scenario of a whole new concept of contemporary design.
Born in 1972, he graduated from University College Dublin with a History and Art History degree before studying architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture and at Sci-Arc in Los Angeles. After a period working for Ian Ritchie and James Gorst in London he set up Tierney Haines Architects with his wife Nicola Haines. Stephen has taught design studios at the Bartlett and presently teaches in the architecture school at University College Dublin where his particular interest of research is photography and ways of seeing.
Tierney Haines Architects design houses with a connection to their landscapes and use natural materials and local forms. The interior design and landscape architecture are an important part of the concept and bespoke furniture is designed for many houses. The practice's furniture designs are inspired by natural structures, wooden boats, ceramics and potential movement.
Previous furniture designs have been exhibited at the London Design Fair and Stephen has collaborated with made.com and Vif.
Enzo Mari was born in Novara, Northern Italy in 1932. His work branches in various directions with the common reference denominator being the reflection on the meanings of shapes and design. This activity, which began with research into visual perception was subsequently oriented to children's games, graphic art, design and architecture. He was lectured on a number of courses including "Study Center for Visual Communication" with the University of Parma, the Academy of Fine Art in Carrara, the Faculty of Architecture with the Milan Plytech and ISIA in Florence. More recently, he has lectured at "Hochschüle der Kunste" in Berlin and at "Hochschüle fur Angewandte Kunst" in Vienna. In 2002, the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytech awarded him a Honorary Degree in Industrial Design. He is a member of the "Study Center and Archives of Communication" in Parma. The archives contain approximately nine thousand original designs. His work has been exhibited in numerous museums including the Venice Biennal, the Milan Triennal, the "Schloss Charlottenburg" in Berlin, the "Galleria Santa Monica" in Barcelona and the Gallery of Modern Art in San Marino. Exemple of his works of art and design are part of collection in various museums such as "CSAC" in Parma, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, MoMA in New York and the Milan Triennal. He has been awarded numerous prizes for his research projects including four "Compasso d'Oro" awards. In 2001, Bollati Boringhieri published the book "Design and Passion". Among the more recent books dedicated to his work: "Why write a book about Enzo Mari?" by F. Burkhardt and F. Picchi, Pub. Motta; "Enzo Mari - the work at the Centre" by A. d'Avossa and F.Picchi, Pub. Electa; "Enzo Mari: between Art of Design and Applied Art", supervised by the International Ceramic Museum in Faenza.
Matteo Nunziati opened his studio in Milan in 2000. Studio Nunziati is specialized in interior architecture and design and collaborates with many important companies in the design fields of furniture, illumination and accessories.
Matteo Nunziati has won a number of prestigious awards including the recent Good Design Award 2011 Chicago USA, Wallpaper Design Award 2011 UK Regno Unito???, Cityscape Award 2013 Saudi Arabia.
The studio is specialized in the design of luxury, wellness centers, SPAs and residential properties.
This genial architect has completed projects (with many others work-in-progress) in Italy, Switzerland, Poland, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, The Maldives, China.
He has also planned exhibitions, events and tradeshow layouts.
Since 2004 to the present day, he has lectured in a number of Institutes and Design Schools; he directed the short ‘Hotel Design’ course with Domus Academy; he is the Project Leader, again with the Domus Academy, of the Master in Interior Design (in 2005 and 2006); he works with the Department of Industrial Design/Graduate Institute of Innovation and Design, National Taipei University of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan.

From 2009 to the present day he has taken part in a number of high-end conferences organized by “Federlegno Arredo” in collaboration with ICE (Foreign Trade Institute) and with the Italian Government as a representative of Italian design across the world (Qatar, The Lebanon, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, etc.).

Vico Magistretti’s work and research have influenced and marked the history of Italian design, of which he is an indisputable protagonist.
He was born on October 6th 1920 in Milan; he graduated in architecture in 1945 and then joined his father’s architecture studio. In 1948, he started taking part in the first editions of the Milan Triennial. In 1956, he was a founder member of ADI, the Association of Industrial Design. In 1967, he became a member of the prestigious St. Luke’s Academy in Rome.He won numerous prizes and commendations, including the Gold Medal at the IX Triennial (1951), the Grand Prix at the X Triennial (1954), two Compassi d'Oro (respectively in 1967 and 1979), the Gold Medal presented by S.I.A.D. Society of Industrial Artists & Designers (1986), the Compasso d'oro for his career (1995), two Gold and Silver Medals at the Wiener M?belsalons International (1970), the Golden chair at M?belmesse K?ln (1982), the Apostolo Gold Medal presented by Design Milano (1997).
He was tireless in his research into the culture of design and his innovative experimentation into materials and technology (plastic and its derivatives), spatial solutions (the subject of stackable and transportable articles) and innovative shapes and functions, distant from the restrictions of fashion that have greatly conditioned the last sixty years. His creations have been displayed in all the major design exhibitions in Italy, across Europe, USA and Japan and are included in the permanent collections of the world’s most important museums: twelve creations are included in the permanent collection of MOMA in New York. He was an honorary member at the London Royal College of Art in London, where he was also Honorary Visiting Professor and he was a member of the Royal Scottish Incorporation of Architects, he lectured at the Domus Academy in Milan and held conferences in Milan, Venice, Rome, London, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Aspen, Tokyo and Sao Paulo.
He has designed for the most important Italian and international brands and holds the record for the greatest number of beds designed for a single company: Flou.
"The most important pieces that I have designed, irrespective of their commercial success, are those that have made a contribution to the history of the companies I designed for. I am delighted that some items, such as the bed Nathalie, are still in production 20 or 30 years down the line".
We will use this quotation to terminate the brief history of the Great Maestro who died in Milan on September 19th 2006, at the age of 86 years.
The studio OPERA was founded in 1990.
Mario Dell’Orto, Emanuela Garbin, Enrico Cattaneo, founded the studio in order to combine their different professional experiences, matured in the same operational environment. The common denominator was the language affinity, which established the objectives geared to provide answers to the complex problems of the sector in a complete and specialist manner.
The studio is active in a number of areas that range from the operations to identify the development strategies, to the study of communication, industrial design, the plans or restructuring projects for showrooms and sales points.
For the companies, the consulting can include specific requirements or art direction in the more general sense, where it is possible to identify an organizational and synergetic route that can permit the coincidence of the various initiatives to provide better identification of the specific brand on the market.
In the area of design, the Studio has designed and continues to design models of the various product types. Armchairs, settees, furniture, beds and furnishing accessories that carry the name OPERA DESIGN have been accepted by prestigious companies and are now part of their production. Several models have also won prizes during exhibitions and competitions in both Italy and abroad.
For exhibitions and showrooms, the studio is responsible for the design and the restructuring programs, identifying the intervention strategies and defining the image and the communication. The project continues through a program of maintenance or growth of the sales point through initiatives, promotions and events.
The Studio therefore develops a synergetic activity produced by the interconnection between the individual operative specializations, and has the possibility of tackling with a much broader outlook the problems facing this sector in the light of the enormous transformation and mutation
Rodolfo Dordoni was born in Milan in 1954.
He graduated in architecture in 1979 and for the following ten years (until 1989) he was in charge of the art direction and the corporate image of Cappellini (his products include the system of storage containers 'Colombia', the chairs "Lipsia", the settee "Cuba").
He designs for a large number of furnishing companies such as Barovier & Toso, Moroso, Foscarini, Tisettanta, Artemide, Driade, Arteluce, Venini, Flos, Lema, Fontana Arte, Minotti, Molteni, Jab, Dornbracht, Sambonet, Rossana, Fiam.
Since 1995 he has designed a number of stores and showrooms for D&G / Dolce & Gabbana.
He was born in 1967 in Carimate (Co) and graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytech in 1993. He then opened a professional studio that specializes in design.
Carlo Colombo has completed a number of restructuring programs for social buildings and private dwellings and has collaborated with a number of companies producing furnishings, illumination technology and accessories.
He has lectured in Industrial Packaging at the Faculty of Architecture, Milan Polytech where he is assistant lecturer in Furnishing department. He has held conferences in Industrial Design in Italy, Israel, Greece, Portugal, Solvenja, Ucraine, Australia and Great Britain.
His works have been displayed in museums of applied arts and galleries of contemporary art in Paris, Brema and Cologne.
Massimo Castagna was born in 1957. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1984 and two years later, in 1986, he founded the design studio AD Architettura. The studio's professional activities include residential and commercial architecture, refurbishment and conservative restoration, interior and product design. He has worked with many of the leading interior design companies as art director, responsible for product philosophy and selection, design team management and corporate image. One of his most important projects was the design for the high-altitude research laboratory 'Piramide' for the Everest-K2-CNR Scientific Committee, installed at an altitude of 5050 meters in Nepal in 1991 and selected for the 18th Triennale in Milan. For the last ten years, he has lectured on subjects related to training furniture sales facilities on the Master course of Federmobile (the Italian Furniture Federation) at Polidesign of the Milan Polytechnic.
Mario Bellini (born in Milan in 1935) graduated in architecture in 1959 from the Milan Polytech. He was already famous for his activity as a designer which began in 1963 when he worked as a consultant in industrial design with Olivetti; he then continued to expand his client base with numerous Italian and international companies.
He has been awarded the Compasso d'Oro eight times and he has also received a countless number of prestigious international prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Chartered Society of Designers (GB) and the Honorary Title of Designer for Industry by the RSA (GB). Twenty-five of his creations are on display in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; MoMa also dedicated a personal retrospective exhibition to him in 1987. His designs can also be found in the collections of the world's most important museums. Since the Eighties, he has been working with growing success in the field of architecture in Europe, Japan, USA, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. His architectural projects, which have been recognized with important prizes and awards, have been published in some of the world's most qualified journals and included in the most prestigious events of architecture and culture around the globe.
In December 2004, the President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, awarded him the Diploma di 1° Classe con Medaglia d’Oro per i Benemeriti della Scuola, della Cultura e dell’Arte, [First Class Diploma and Gold Medal for the well-deserving experts of Education, Culture and Art] in recognition of the importance of his designs on the international scenario.
He has lectured at the world's most important cultural sites. He was elected member of the Executive Committee of the XVII Triennial of Milan. Between 1986 and 1991 he was director of Domus, the prestigious international monthly journal of architecture, design and art.
The professional activity and the thought-train personal to Mario Bellini have been well-documented in the specialized literature; it includes two monographies, published by Electa and Skira in 1988 and 1996 respectively.

Alessandro Mendini was born in 1931. An architect and designer by trade, he mainly focuses on neo-modern and contemporary design. He designs Italian furniture and rooms using these modern design styles. Previously, he managed magazines such as Casabella, Modo and Domus and many essays have been published in different languages about his work and his own “Atelier Mendini”. Milano designed pieces for Alessi, Philips, Swarovski and Swatch which are now considered worldwide icons of the contemporary design overview.
Born in France in the ‘70s, brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec first sparked an interest in design through their relationship with Issey Miyake in 2000. In just a few short years the brothers have been published twice, first in the “Catalogue de Raison” and then in the 2003 Phaidon issue. Both publications showcase images of their projects. Ronan and Erwan are seen among the rising stars of the design world; bold and reflective while simultaneously poetic and passionate, their creations are considered “micro-architectures” with different functional applications and the ability to characterize and distinctly define the places in which they are put.
Born in Tunisia, Tom Dixon moved to England in 1963. He dropped out of the Chelsea School of Art to play bass in the band “Funkapolitan” before teaching himself first to weld, then to produce furniture. Tom rose to prominence in the mid-1980's as “the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture". He set up a space to use as a creative think-tank and store front for himself and other young designers. By the late 1980s he was working for the Italian furniture giant Cappellini for whom he designed the iconic ‘S’ chair. In the 1990s, Dixon was a household name in the design field. He designed Jack, his polypropylene "sitting, stacking, lighting thing,” for his own company Eurolounge, which became an icon of the decade.Tom was appointed Head of Design by Habitat in 1998, where he later served as Creative Director until 2008. He was the public face of a collective team responsible for rejuvenating the Habitat brand, maintaining Terence Conran's dream of enriching everyday life through simple, modern design and creating a shopping experience that is both theatrical and intimate.
Shiro Kuramata was a Japanese designer from 1965 when he founded the Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo until he died in 1991. Kuramata designed some of the most significant and lasting pieces ever produced. His significance in western design was shown first in Memphis, then with Cappellini in 1987. Cappellini celebrated his talent and made him its choice designer to introduce the Cappellini brand on the international stage. His work can be seen in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, MoMA of New York, the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Toyama.
One of the best-known designers in the world, Piero Lissoni worked from 1977 till 1984 with a G14 office in Milan. During this time he was met with projects linked to graphics, image coordination, interior decoration, design and art direction. His established Milan design office has been designing many international brands in the world of industrial design since 1984. His specialties include interior architecture, general architecture and graphics. His 10-year long relation with the Cappellini brand has produced lasting projects such as Soft couches and the Classica Soft and Crossoft seating series.
Born in Australia in 1963, Marc Newson worked around the world, first in Tokyo, then in Paris and finally in London where he, along with Benjamin de Haan, opened Marc Newson Ltd. in 1997. A variety of his projects are cultural symbols requested by the best museums all over the world, such as MoMA of New York and the Vitra Museum. He is well known as the designer who best entered the pop culture scene and his pieces have been used by Madonna in her music videos and in the Austin Powers films.
Under the direction of architect Oki Sato, the group that gathers under the name Nendo has represented a cultured and refined alternative to self-celebrative design since 2002. “Nendo” means “clay” in Japanese; the job of the Nendo group in the field of interior architecture, furniture and graphics is to be as pliable and flexible as clay. In a just few short years and running on big personality and unmatched determination in the field of modern design, Nendo has already received several international credits.
Marcel Wanders is product- and interior designer who became internationally known with his iconic Knotted Chair, which he produced for Droog Design in 1996. His work is ubiquitous; designing for leading international companies such as Flos, Alessi, Puma, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, MAC Cosmetics, Cappellini, B&B Italia, Moroso and Target. In 2001 Wanders co-founded the successful design label Moooi, of which he is the art director. Additionally he designs for architectural projects, such as the Kameha Grand hotel in Bonn, the Mondrian South Beach hotel in Miami and the Villa Moda store in Bahrain.
Born in London in 1959, Japer Morrison graduated from the Royal College of Art and established his first design office in 1986. Immediately following, he began his lasting and valuable collaboration with Cappellini. Nowadays he works in London and Paris for high-level companies such as Alessi, Flos, Rowenta, Sony and Samsung. Each Morrison project has a simple elegance which makes it strongly modern as an archetype linked to past, favoring function on expression.
